The rise of social networking has reshaped the way we communicate and connect.  Facebook and Twitter are now accepted by many as a way to share and stay in touch, so when building a website, it is important to consider what we have learnt from social networking to make a website "engaging" for visitors and easy to connect to.

This week I am working on a new website that will include it's own "network", allowing people with a common interest in agriculture in WA to join, discuss and share.  The network will be set up using the JomSocial component which means visitors can sign up or login using their facebook profile.

Letting your website visitors "join" your website using their facebook profile is becoming more and more popular. Why?  Because it is so easy!  Rather than remembering a different login username and password for every website you are a member of, you have just one.  It also provides a mechanism for people to control the information they share and to network with like-minded people online.

However creating a network on your website for your visitors may not be applicable to your business, instead you might like to have the ability for people to "Like" content from your website. Think of the free marketing this provides.  If someone likes your content, a link is posted to that person's facebook profile.  Your "average" facebook user has 130 friends so your product, service or information has just been shared with 130 people for free!

If you don't have a facebook page or twitter account, we can help you set up your social networking presence and either train you in how to maintain and update your information, or we can do it for you as part of a maintenance package.

Contact us today and get with the program.
